MANCHESTER BY THE SEA — The Historic District Commission decided to delay a demolition delay by-law proposal. The commission will develop a community survey and hold a public forum in late September to gauge public sentiment on historic preservation before advancing a formal proposal. The commission reviewed approximately 237 demolition permits from roughly two decades but found the data lacked construction dates needed to determine historic significance.
Chair Rosemary Costello led the commission in deciding to gather public input rather than meet an arbitrary November town meeting deadline. In routine business, the commission unanimously approved a Certificate of Appropriateness for new signage at 2 School Street for Lavender and Moss Floral.
